The Academic Career Entrance Program (ACE) is a grade 12 equivalent delivered by all 24 colleges in Ontario. ACE is provided by the Ministry of Colleges, MTCU. The ACE program is recognized by post-secondary institutions (colleges, universities, apprenticeship programs) as a provincial Grade 12 equivalency credential. It is also widely accepted by employers. The ACE program has specific course requirements and outcomes for graduation. It is completely free.
The initial assessment interview determines the direction or course of action that will be taken to fulfil the learner’s requirements and needs. Goals are set and a plan is developed to make the goals achievable. Any issues can be identified at that time that will affect the learner’s schedule or progress, such as transportation, childcare, or employment readiness.
Any adult student is eligible to enrol in the ACE program or take any of the ACE courses. Students, who wish to use ACE as a Grade 12 equivalency credential, need to meet specific criteria. When the specific criteria are met, ACE is widely recognized as a Grade 12 equivalent by post-secondary institutions, apprenticeships, and employers.
Students requiring a Grade 12 equivalent must complete 4 ACE credit courses. 2 core subjects and 2 electives. Core subjects are Math and Communications. Elective courses available are: Computer Skills, Self-Direction Skills, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
This is flexible, independent, and student directed. Learning can be done on-site in individual or group sessions, or on-line (on or off-site). Tests and assignments are marked and accredited by the Confederation College.
When the specific criteria are met, an ACE diploma is issued by the Confederation College, Thunder Bay, ON.
